My favourite track on this album. I always find folk tales & legends interesting. The clever use of a glockenspiel takes the song to another level because it excellently depicts the casting of a spell. Thank you, The Tirith! 8/10.

about
The song "Crystalwell" is a cautionary folk tale, loosely based on the 18th century poem by Robert Southey "The Well of St Keyne". St Keyne is a small village in Cornwall with an ancient holy well associated with St Keyne. The story of St Keyne is that she was one of the daughters of the legendary King Brychan of Wales. She did good deeds in the West of England. Around the well named after her she planted four trees - an oak, an elm, a willow and an ash.l The waters are said to hold a magic power. If a married couple drinks from the well, the one who drinks first will be the master in their marriage.
lyrics
An Oak and Elm tree stand beside the Crystalwell
And on the bank above a willow drops down to the water
There came a stranger from outside
He didn’t know what resides in the magic of the waters
The sun was high up in the sky, the day was hot
And he was tired and weary and his thirst was strong
He cupped his hands and bent, he drank the water there
Ooo Ahhh, Oooo Ahhh
The guardian of the well stepped forth, to tell her tale
She told him of the magic of the spell
“If a man drinks first before his wife he will be fine
But if his wife drinks first his life will be cursed”
Drinking from the Crystalwell where witches dance by night
There’s no warning of the spell there waiting
Drinking from the Crystalwell, beware before you drink
A sip may change your life, if you believe it
Another time another place, a special day
And love was in the air and all his dreams were coming true
Marrying the queen of the may, it seemed like she came
From the mountains of the Moon
Then later they passed their time with tales, she spoke to him
A story of her childhood faraway, to tell
She was from a valley lush and green, beside a Crystalwell
Ooo Ahhh, Oooo Ahhh
Then he remembered the guardian of the well
She told him of the magic of the spell
“If a man drinks first before his wife he will be fine
But if his wife drinks first his life will be cursed”
Drinking from the Crystalwell where witches dance by night
There’s no warning of the spell there waiting
Drinking from the Crystalwell, beware before you drink
A sip may change your life, if you believe it
Drinking from the Crystalwell where witches dance by night
There’s no warning of the spell there waiting
Drinking from the Crystalwell, beware before you drink
A sip may change your life, if you believe

Soothfully a phenomenal prog rock album—an instant classic. What motivates me to say so, is the music’s incredible expressiveness & its wonderfully cinematic song structures. Jargon is a very good fit with this band. It is quite evident that the band’s current lineup have great chemistry together & that they share a common affinity to this vein of music. I look forward to their next creation. Drifting Sun are definitely one of prog rock’s brightest lights. Thank you, DS!

I saw Stuckfish at HRH Prog 13 last November. Great melodic songs and superb vocals, which reminded me of the great late John Lawton. I thoroughly recommend this album it has been on rotation since I bought it. Great stuff. jonesy1961
