i) Return of The Lydia (part 1) We turned the key again and slipped out of the everglide And there before us was the world A planet like no other we had ever seen Blue and beautiful beyond all words And as we touched the outer atmosphere we cried And the Lydia shone brightly in the dark We hoped her heatshield would see us through Too late for final dramas now The ride was rough and it seemed that all was lost Then the ground came up to meet us much too soon And we crashed out across the desert plain The hatch came open and we were still alive ii) What do you say to an Alien? They sent us on a quest for knowledge For worlds with alien life Go find us a nice new planet That we can colonise What do you say to an alien if you’re lost for words? Hello, my name is Mike, and I’m from planet Earth So many barren rocks Strung out across the arm Dead worlds, poison gas And aliens that mean no harm What do you say to an alien if you’re lost for words? Hello, my name is Mike, and I’m here to take your world In the end we couldn’t do it, we couldn’t invade their world We left them there on their planet, and went to Betelgeuse instead In the end we couldn’t do it, we couldn’t invade their world We left them there on their planet, and went to Betelgeuse instead They sent us searching for something we already have Looking for an Avalon so we can mess up that But there’s only one world, only one Earth We may have screwed it up but there’s only one Earth So what do you say to an alien if you’re lost for words? Hello, my name is Mike, and I’m from planet Earth What do you say to an alien if you know your words? Hello, my name is Mike, and I’m going back to Earth iii) Return of The Lydia (part 2) And so at last we walked along that stony road once more The road that led down to the sea Across the causeway arm in arm, united in the dawn To the castle by the rock And so we knelt before them and returned the key Entrusted in our hands so long ago Our days had passed, the quest was over The Lydia now a wreck laid out across the rusting plain We were so sad as we left the rock that day And then we joined our hands together once more And said those words one final time “To the Galaxy and Beyond!”

Hastening to battle glory This is now our nation’s story You will die in freedom now But only so we can live Stepping on the arduous road Your fate will live in song forever The rumbling of the distant guns Together we will overcome Your path laid out before you As you bravely march along You can hear the trumpet call Patriotic to the cause We cannot live in chains forever Overcoming all together You must struggle on And the people will be free Glory to the revolution It is now the one solution Some of you may not survive Because we are dying to live She stood there smiling in the Spanish square Decaying architecture of another age But these are the words she said “The trouble with this country is all of its heroes are dead” Diving boats and government yachts Partying with the tourists for all they’ve got And though they’re proud but poor They’re stuck in a glorious past, now the people want more Now that we are free, why can’t we be free We’re stranded in our land, and we’re dying to live Symbols of power in the midday sun Banners of the leaders of the revolution But these are the words she said “The trouble with this country is all of its heroes are dead” Now that we are free, why can’t we be free We’re stranded in our land, and we’re dying to live She stood there smiling in the Spanish square Decaying architecture of another age But these are the words she said “The trouble with this country is all of its heroes are dead” Now that we are free, why can’t we be free We’re stranded in our land, and we’re dying to live Now that we are free, why can’t we be free We’re stranded in our land, and we’re dying to live Hastening to battle glory This is now our nation’s story You will die in freedom now But only so we can live Stepping on the arduous road Your fate will live in song forever We cannot live in chains forever Overcoming all together You must struggle on And the people will be free Glory to the revolution It is now the one solution Some of you may not survive Because we are dying to live

My People 09:38
The moving of the mountain, the flowing of the desert sands, The never ending stream that picks me up and makes me what I am, So many times I’ve touched the earth, felt the rhythm, So many times I’ve walked these roads, never knowing this was my home Who are my people? What is their land? Who are my people? Where do we stand? They’ve scattered to the wind like seeds that have fallen to the ground, They’ve taken to the seas to make their mark upon the world, I pass them in the street but we are strangers, we look the other way, In another age we’d have been brothers and we’d be heard to say, These are my people, these are my kin. The stories and the legends, handed down like gold from son to son, Back through the mists of ages, back to a time when we were one, I’ve often stepped from stone to stone, across the river, I’ve often seen those waters flow, turning pebbles as they go. Who are my people? What is their land? Who are my people? Where do we stand? They’ve scattered to the wind like seeds that have fallen to the ground, They’ve taken to the seas to make their mark upon the world, I pass them in the street but we are strangers, we look the other way, In another age we’d have been brothers and we’d be heard to say, These are my people, these are my kin. Who are my people? What is their land? Who are my people? Where do we stand? These are my people, These are my kin, These are my people, These are my kin.

Wandered as far as I can go today Can’t go no further I’m tired Packed up my bags and left my home today The day before I got fired Go the Drifter Go far Never sailed the seven seas I’ve travelled far Had about as much as I can take Of those laughing rainbow boys There’s a song for every moment I’m sitting here waiting for the choice Go the Drifter Go far Never sailed the seven seas I’ve travelled far I know I’m sad but I’m honest And don’t really have a care The folks that pass beneath my window Are butterflies and sparrows in the sky Go the Drifter Go far Never sailed the seven seas I’ve travelled far Go the Drifter Go far Never sailed the seven seas I’ve travelled far

Crystalwell 11:39
An Oak and Elm tree stand beside the Crystalwell And on the bank above a willow drops down to the water There came a stranger from outside He didn’t know what resides in the magic of the waters The sun was high up in the sky, the day was hot And he was tired and weary and his thirst was strong He cupped his hands and bent, he drank the water there Ooo Ahhh, Oooo Ahhh The guardian of the well stepped forth, to tell her tale She told him of the magic of the spell “If a man drinks first before his wife he will be fine But if his wife drinks first his life will be cursed” Drinking from the Crystalwell where witches dance by night There’s no warning of the spell there waiting Drinking from the Crystalwell, beware before you drink A sip may change your life, if you believe it Another time another place, a special day And love was in the air and all his dreams were coming true Marrying the queen of the may, it seemed like she came From the mountains of the Moon Then later they passed their time with tales, she spoke to him A story of her childhood faraway, to tell She was from a valley lush and green, beside a Crystalwell Ooo Ahhh, Oooo Ahhh Then he remembered the guardian of the well She told him of the magic of the spell “If a man drinks first before his wife he will be fine But if his wife drinks first his life will be cursed” Drinking from the Crystalwell where witches dance by night There’s no warning of the spell there waiting Drinking from the Crystalwell, beware before you drink A sip may change your life, if you believe it Drinking from the Crystalwell where witches dance by night There’s no warning of the spell there waiting Drinking from the Crystalwell, beware before you drink A sip may change your life, if you believe

In these days of uncertain times We can’t change ‘til we know our minds And the course we’re on is known There can be no perversity No moves on our destiny And the fate of all we know You can never know how fast I go If you can see me standing there Just as soon as you know my speed I’m in a position of uncertainty In this land of undefined lies We can’t move ‘til we compromise And the balance that we decide Inertia and inactivity No straight lines just apathy But the truth we’ll come to know You can never know how fast I go If you can see me standing there Just as soon as you know my speed I’m in a position of uncertainty Are you for real or a passing wave Am I your friend or simply a craze Can you not see that I’m on the run I’m here but moving and all at once I’m crashing out of your orbit You can never know how fast I go If you can see me standing there Just as soon as you know my speed I’m in a position of uncertainty

The parting of the ways and the setting of the sun, So sad in many ways that we were apart, Seemed like life itself was tearing us apart, Time forsake our dreams for many a year And it can’t be that far to the north desert star Where you and I will meet again one day, There’s no need for words; inside we converse. I’ll see you at the meeting of the ways And the love that you made was there in your heart, You passed it on down for all to see, And the love that I took has stayed with me, Now I’ve passed it on down for eternity And it can’t be that far to the north desert star Where you and I will meet again one day, There’s no need for words; inside we converse. I’ll see you at the meeting of the ways The sunlight falls on the shadow lands, We greet the dawn like long lost friends, And you’re for me and I’m for you, The road leads down from the desert plain The parting of the ways and the setting of the sun, So sad in many ways that we were apart, Seemed like life itself was tearing us apart, Time forsake our dreams for many a year The sunlight falls on the shadow lands, We greet the dawn like long lost friends, And you’re for me and I’m for you, The road leads down from the desert plain The parting of the ways and the setting of the sun, So sad in many ways that we were apart, Seemed like life itself was tearing us apart, Time forsake our dreams for many a year And it can’t be that far to the north desert star Where you and I will meet again one day, There’s no need for words; inside we converse. I’ll see you at the meeting of the ways The parting of the ways, the setting of the sun, The falling of the leaves in autumn days, Many paths we took some long and others short, No one could ever know we’d meet again, One day there’ll be a time, The rising of the streams will show the way, And we will follow paths until they join as one, And then there’ll be a meeting of the ways The sunlight falls on the shadow lands, We greet the dawn like long lost friends, And you’re for me and I’m for you, The road leads down from the desert plain The sunlight falls on the shadow lands, We greet the dawn like long lost friends, And you’re for me and I’m for you, Into the valley where we’ll meet again You’re for me and I’m for you, Yeh, you’re for me and I’m for you, You’re for me and I’m for you, Yeh, you’re for me and I’m for you,

about

This is the 3rd album from The Tirith and comprises 7 tracks.

1) Return of the Lydia
2) Dying to Live
3) My People
4) Go the Drifter
5) Crystalwell
6) The Uncertainty Principle
7) The Meeting of the Ways

As usual The Tirith cover many bases within the Prog Rock genre, from powerful riff-based sequences, through stunning guitar solos to Prog ballads. The material is often hard to define, but is song based, powerful and, in contrast to many Prog bands, guitar led. The album has been expertly produced and mixed by Tim Cox. All in all the band feel that “Return of the Lydia” is a big step forward for The Tirith.
